Yet another driver already rear-ended someone with it after I started driving the Yaris. On Friday, it was used to rear-end someone, again. This time there was structural damage, and the car was already essentially worthless because of the mileage and overall condition, so off to the scrapyard it goes. This means our ‘07 Yaris with 420k kms isn’t getting replaced anymore, the car allotted to replace it will now be replacing this poor Accent. At least the driver who crashed this one won’t be getting the new car....

Poor little Accent, I have one of them - ‘09 hatch. Still think it’s a basic, but reliable and decent little car.

Sedan or hatch?

You’re exactly right. It’s not glamorous, but they stand up to the abuse of multiple different not very good drivers, and poor maintenance. We did have one snap a timing belt on the highway....that was the stores fault for not replacing it

One of the vehicles in my employer’s motor pool is a late-model Ford Transit Connect in a beautiful copper brown. Within the first year, someone had hit something with the van, crinkling the sliding door and rear quarter panel on one side. The damage remains because it’s all on the surface and the company is losing money. Le sigh.

Yeah, nothing gets repaired on these cars unless it’s necessary for them to run and drive.....it took me ages to get them to align that car when I was driving it. At the time it had 200k or so and had never been aligned, the steering wheel vibrated badly at highway speeds. They didn’t fix it after the first rear-ender, it was only getting assessed this time because the radiator was a casualty of the second rear-ender

They are interference engines if memory serves, aren’t they? Did that timing belt snap require an engine transplant?

Just reached 111,000kms on mine...still going strong! A few rattles here and there from where I had to get a slight winter bump fixed from last year and the collision place had to take some interior trim off. Nothing bad though! :)

I believe so, I’m told it made an awful sound and died immediately. That car just got scrapped, it was already past 250k or so and replacing the engine was more than they wanted to pay, so they got a new car. Expect more rattles as the miles increase, but nothing too bad. Other than getting crashed and that timing belt, we only ever did oil changes, a couple wheel bearings, and I think one of them needed a crank position sensor or some other sensor
